Trichinosis (Trichinella spiralis)

Trichinosis (aka trichinellosis) is a disease caused by the roundworm Trichinella spiralis. Roundworm larvae can migrate and embed in the muscles. People primarily get this disease from eating wild game that is not properly cooked. There is an average of 20 cases a year in the United States; this disease is not common in Minnesota, only six cases occurred from 2006-2011.
